Scapegrace Thunderdonk Whisky Spiced Maple

Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 33% | Chill filtration: Yes | Colouring: No

Special Features:

ThunderDonk Spiced Maple combines New Zealand whisky with a sweet, spicy flavour profile. Caramelised maple notes and toasted oak provide the backdrop for a subtle cinnamon accent. The liqueur is produced in small batches in Central Otago and bottled at 33% alcohol. The bottle contains 0.7 litres; no colouring is added.

ThunderDonk marked Scapegrace's first entry into the liqueur category in 2025, following 18 months of development. Spiced Maple was released alongside Salted Caramel and can be enjoyed neat, chilled or as a base for cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Warm cinnamon spice leads on the nose. Restrained maple sweetness and light notes of toasted oak complement the aroma.
• Palate: On the palate, the liqueur opens with sweet maple and caramel notes. Cinnamon spice quickly follows, accompanied by a hint of vanilla. Subtle woody notes balance the sweetness.
• Finish: The long finish is spicy and dry. Cinnamon and oak define it, while the maple sweetness lingers only gently.

Distillery/Bottler:

Scapegrace Distilling Co. is behind ThunderDonk. The distillery stands beside Lake Dunstan in Central Otago on New Zealand's South Island, close to the 45th parallel and the Mount Pisa mountain range. The site was chosen after a search spanning around ten years in the region. Its facilities include copper stills from Speyside and a cask warehouse in the Bendigo mountains. Scapegrace brings grain processing, distillation and subsequent production together at this site, making gin and vodka as well as whisky.
