Special Features:

In Les Grands Assemblages 40 Years, extended ageing shapes the interplay between the selected Ugni Blanc and Baco Armagnacs. The youngest component is forty years old; older spirits may also be included in the blend. The quality of the oak casks is crucial: suitable wood contributes to the Armagnac’s complexity and finesse over the decades. The decanter contains 0.7 litres at 43% and comes with gift packaging.

Vanilla, orange peel and clementine bring fruity and sweet accents. Toffee, spices and dark chocolate add further notes, with sandalwood and black tea in the dry finish. The Armagnac contains no colouring and is not chill-filtered.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: The nose is expressive, with fresh wood notes and clearly discernible aromas of cinnamon and liquorice.
  • Palate: Intense flavours of dried fruit, prunes and dark chocolate unfold on the palate. The tannins are rounded and give the Armagnac structure.
  • Finish: The finish is long and dry, combining toffee and spices with dark chocolate, sandalwood and black tea.

Distillery/Bottler:

Darroze now selects its spirits from around thirty estates. The selected spirits continue to mature in the cellars in Roquefort and Labastide d’Armagnac. For Les Grands Assemblages, Armagnacs from different terroirs, vintages and styles are brought together according to how they complement one another in the blend. Marc Darroze runs the family house and, together with his team, oversees selection, maturation and bottling.

The family’s connection with Armagnac began in Jean Darroze’s restaurant in Villeneuve-de-Marsan. It was there that his son Francis became acquainted with the wines and spirits of Gascony. From the late 1960s onwards, Francis increasingly visited estates in Bas-Armagnac, selecting their spirits and taking responsibility for their further maturation and bottling. This work grew into the house as it exists today.
