The eight-year-old Darroze Les Grands Assemblages brings together Armagnacs from different terroirs, vintages and styles. The age statement refers to the youngest component in the blend. Bottled at 43%, this release has a restrained wood influence that allows the fruit of the young Bas-Armagnacs to take centre stage.

Prunes, candied orange peel and quince define its direct, lively style. The blend has drive while remaining soft and enveloping. It can be enjoyed neat, as an aperitif with or without ice, or in Armagnac cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, prunes, quince and candied orange peel mingle with ripe grapes and other dried fruits. Subtle woody notes, a little vanilla and gentle spices complement the fruity bouquet.
• Palate: On the palate, the Armagnac is lively, rounded, soft and enveloping. Ripe fruit, prunes and candied citrus meet light woody and spicy notes. The tannins are noticeable without being aggressive.
• Finish: The lingering finish remains soft and fruity. Ripe and candied fruits leave a warm aftertaste with gentle spice, vanilla and a delicate woody note.

Distillery/Bottler:

In the late 1960s, Francis Darroze began selecting Armagnacs from producers in Bas-Armagnac, ageing them further and bottling them. His father Jean, who ran a restaurant in Villeneuve-de-Marsan, had introduced him to the region’s wines and spirits. Today, Marc Darroze heads the family house. Around thirty estates contribute to its selection, and the spirits mature in the cellars of Roquefort and Labastide d’Armagnac. For the eight-year-old release of Les Grands Assemblages, the house marries Armagnacs made from Ugni Blanc and Baco into a fruit-led blend.
