A finish in a first-fill Oloroso sherry barrique gives this Auchroisk a pronounced dried-fruit character while leaving its citrus and herbal notes intact. A barrique is smaller than a butt. This Speyside single malt appears as The Might of the Moor in the third release of Brave New Spirits’ The WhiskyHeroes series.

The whisky from cask 808700 was distilled on 1 April 2013 and bottled at twelve years old on 7 April 2025. The cask yielded 302 bottles at 57.2% ABV, each containing 0.7 litres. The whisky is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Alongside apricot, orange and raisin, the whisky shows hay, lemon balm and mint. These fresh notes contrast with the dried fruit of the Oloroso finish; mango and menthol shape the lingering finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Dried apricot and candied orange peel rise from the glass, accompanied by hay and lemon balm.
• Palate: On the palate, sweet raisins and the acidity of ripe lemon meet green herbal spice and a distinct mint note in a dense texture.
• Finish: The finish is long and dry, with dried mango and a cool menthol note lingering.

Distillery/Bottler:

Auchroisk stands in Speyside between Rothes and Keith and was built in the mid-1970s. Its tall, slender stills favour a relatively light, fruity spirit.

Brave New Spirits is an independent bottler based in Glasgow. For The WhiskyHeroes, it selects single casks and small batches, presenting the whiskies in distinctive packaging designed by its own studio. In The Might of the Moor, Auchroisk’s fruity distillery character meets an Oloroso sherry finish.
