Sheep Dip 5 y.o. Blended Malt Scotch Whisky combines more than a dozen Scottish single malts. The individual whiskies were matured for at least five years in a combination of first-fill sherry casks, first-fill bourbon casks and refill oak casks.

Fruity and nutty aromas contrast with a pronounced malt character. A light smoky note subtly complements the profile without overshadowing the fruit and malt.

The whisky is presented at 40% in a 0.7-litre bottle with gift packaging. It is chill-filtered and contains added colouring.

The unusual brand name draws on a story from farming tradition: whisky orders were supposedly entered on invoices as sheep dip so that they would attract less attention.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sweet orchard fruit, sugared almonds and juicy melon combine with coastal notes, honey and toffee. A piquant edge and a malty, youthful impression complete the bouquet.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky is full, warming and distinctly malt-driven, while a youthful, spirit-forward impression remains perceptible.
• Finish: The finish is lively, powerful and piquant, ending on a harmonious note.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Sheep Dip brand traces its origins to a farmer and publican in Oldbury-on-Severn who offered the whisky as a house bottling around 1974. Growing demand led to the creation of the MJ Dowdeswell & Co. brand, which later passed through Invergordon Distillers to Whyte & Mackay.

Alex Nicol acquired Sheep Dip from Whyte & Mackay in 2005 and founded the Spencerfield Spirit Company. Master Blender Richard Paterson continued to oversee the brand's blending. Since Ian Macleod Distillers acquired Spencerfield in 2016, Sheep Dip has formed part of the Scottish family company's portfolio; Ian Macleod also bottles this five-year-old expression.
