Within the Johnnie Walker range, Black Ruby places a distinctly sweeter, fruitier emphasis than Black Label. Master Blender Emma Walker and her team select whisky from Roseisle, among others, alongside components from bourbon casks and red wine casks seasoned with Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso. The blend brings dark fruit together with the restrained smoky note that is also part of its character.

Berries and plums take centre stage alongside honeyed sweetness, figs and maraschino cherries. Vanilla and spice complement the fruit; a delicate grassy note adds freshness, while the smoke remains subtle. Black Ruby can be enjoyed neat or in whisky cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, dark cherries recall jam, joined by vanilla, caramel, pepper, tobacco, raisins and a hint of fresh oak.
• Palate: The whisky feels juicy and light on the palate. Figs, cherries and plums mingle with chocolate, caramel, spiced pastry and a little smoke.
• Finish: The finish is soft, leaving dried fruit and smoke behind.

Distillery/Bottler:

The story of Johnnie Walker began in 1820 with John Walker’s grocery shop in Kilmarnock, Scotland. As individual whiskies varied in flavour at the time, he began blending them to achieve a more consistent style. The brand grew from that approach. Today, Master Blender Emma Walker and her team create its blends; Black Ruby is part of the range owned by Diageo and is an official bottling.
