Johnnie Walker Black Ruby puts fruit more firmly in the foreground than Black Label. Master Blender Dr. Emma Walker and her team selected whisky from Roseisle Distillery, among others, for the blend. It includes whiskies from red wine casks previously seasoned with Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso, as well as from bourbon casks. The bourbon-cask components contribute vanilla, while a restrained smoky note rounds out the blend.

Berries, figs and plums shape its fruit character, with honey and maraschino cherries adding depth. Vanilla, a light grassy accent and gentle spice bring further nuance. The whisky is rounded and velvety soft. This official bottling contains 1 litre of whisky at 40% and comes without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, dark cherries and fruit preserve mingle with vanilla, caramel and raisins. A little pepper, tobacco and a hint of fresh oak complete the aromas.
• Palate: The whisky feels juicy and light on the palate. Raspberry jam and blackberry cake meet honeyed sweetness, alongside figs, cherries and plums. Caramel, chocolate and spiced ginger biscuits complement the fruit, with a little smoke alongside.
• Finish: Dried fruit, light spice and a subtle smoky note come together in the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The brand’s history began in 1820 with John Walker’s shop in Kilmarnock. Individual whiskies varied in flavour at the time, so he began blending them to achieve a more consistent style. That business grew into Johnnie Walker. Dr. Emma Walker now leads the blending team and worked with it to develop Black Ruby as a fruit-forward interpretation of Black Label.
