Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 44.2% | Colouring: No
Special Features:
St James’s brings together malt whiskies from Speyside and the Highlands with grain whisky. For the first batch, a large proportion of the Speyside component spent a short additional period in former Islay casks. This cask contact gives the blend a subtle smoky note without overshadowing its fruity character.
Berry Bros. & Rudd creates the range in small, individually composed batches. The ten-year-old whisky is bottled at 44.2% without added colouring. Juicy orchard fruit, caramel, chocolate and vanilla meet lemon sweets and black pepper.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: The nose reveals juicy apples and pears, accompanied by pronounced caramel and dark chocolate.
- Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and creamy on the palate. Black pepper provides a spicy counterpoint to vanilla and lemon sweets.
- Finish: The finish is smooth and creamy, leaving a mouth-filling sensation.
Distillery/Bottler:
Berry Bros. & Rudd is a family-run London wine and spirits merchant whose roots date back to 1698. That year, its founder, known as Widow Bourne, opened a grocery shop on St James’s Street selling tea, coffee and spices, among other goods. As the business later shifted towards wine and spirits, it also began bottling spirits from selected casks under its own name in the early 19th century.
Its connection with Blended Scotch also has a long history: the first St. James’s Blend appeared in 1902. The present range builds on this heritage. Spirits Curator Felix Dear is responsible for composing this whisky.
