For Brown Sugar, Turntable marries whiskies from five Scottish distilleries, then finishes the completed blend in Moscatel barriques for over 20 months. The components therefore spend this additional maturation period together rather than coming together just before bottling. The limited-edition Track 10 combines dark, sooty smoke and an oily character reminiscent of an engine room with creamy peach and ripe nectarine.

The blend consists of 34% Loch Lomond, 22% Ledaig, 16% Strathclyde, 15% Tamdhu and 13% Tullibardine. Ledaig comes from a Sherry Puncheon and contributes peat smoke, coastal saltiness and tobacco. Tamdhu from a First Fill Bourbon Barrel adds toasted oak and cinnamon pastries, while Tullibardine from a Virgin Oak Barrel brings pear and lemon tart. Loch Lomond and Strathclyde each matured in First Fill Bourbon Barrels, contributing sweet impressions of icing sugar and brown sugar respectively.

The whisky is bottled at 52.5% alcohol without chill filtration or added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Dark smoke and tobacco shape the nose, joined by peach, nectarine and sweet fruit notes.
• Palate: On the palate, sooty smoke and an oily texture meet creamy peach and ripe nectarine. Cinnamon and brown sugar complement the contrast between smoke and fruity sweetness.
• Finish: The long, smoky finish leaves sweet stone fruit, dark smoke and lingering spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Turntable is a Glasgow blending house with brothers Gordon and Alasdair Stevenson behind it. When they embarked on this venture together, they brought more than twenty years of combined experience. Their focus is on small-batch blends: they combine whiskies of different origins and cask maturation histories, experimenting with how they interact. For Brown Sugar, this includes a long shared finish in Moscatel casks after the blend has been assembled.
