Legent owes its distinctive character to the combination of different maturation paths. It begins with Kentucky Straight Bourbon made to a historic Beam family recipe and aged for at least four years in new, internally charred white oak casks. Some of this whiskey then undergoes further maturation in sherry casks, while another portion is finished in red wine casks. Shinji Fukuyo blends these differently finished whiskeys with additional Kentucky Straight Bourbon, which makes up the largest share of the blend.
The sherry casks add fruit notes and spice, while the red wine casks bring out dried fruit aromas and contribute gentle acidity. The warm, oak-led bourbon foundation is retained while gaining further layers of flavour. Legent is bottled at 47% alcohol and can be enjoyed neat, over ice or in cocktails.

Legent brings together Fred Noe of Jim Beam and Shinji Fukuyo of Suntory. Noe continues his family's distilling tradition as its seventh-generation Master Distiller; Fukuyo is the fifth Chief Blender in Suntory's history and oversees Yamazaki, Hakushu and Hibiki, among others. Their collaboration combines bourbon production in Kentucky with the Japanese art of bringing different whiskies together in a balanced blend.
Legent took several years to develop. Noe was responsible for producing the bourbon, while Fukuyo balanced the differently matured components. Grain and calcium-rich, iron-free limestone water are used to make the base whiskey. The selection and blending of the whiskeys focus on a recognisable flavour profile. Legent was introduced in 2019 and is produced and bottled by Legent Distilling Co. in Clermont, Kentucky.
