Bourbon maturation shapes this eleven-year-old Ben Nevis from Cadenhead's Original Collection. The single malt was distilled in 2012 and bottled in September 2024 at 46%. It contains no added colouring and has not been chill-filtered. For the Original Collection, Cadenhead's marries whiskies from a small selection of casks to express its own interpretation of each distillery's character. Whiskies for this range are specifically selected for how they show at the intended bottling strength of 46%.

Its character combines apple pastries and notes of white grapes with creamy malt and mineral impressions. Sweet pastries, grain and flint create a distinct contrast.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, apple strudel and icing sugar meet grassy notes, white grapes and cinnamon.
• Palate: The whisky feels creamy and malty on the palate, with wholegrain cereals and gooseberries.
• Finish: Kiwi skin and flint combine with salted caramel, barley sugar and barley sugar sweets in the mineral-sweet finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Ben Nevis Distillery produces the malt at the foot of Ben Nevis near Fort William in the western Highlands. John MacDonald founded the distillery in 1825; it has belonged to Nikka since 1989. Its water comes from the mountain lochs Coire Leis and Coire na’Ciste and reaches the distillery via the Allt a’Mhuilinn.

Cadenhead's is the independent bottler of this bourbon-matured whisky. The company traces its roots to a wine and spirits business founded in Aberdeen in 1842 and was acquired by J & A Mitchell & Co Ltd in 1972. Today, Cadenhead's bottles in Campbeltown. The team uses tastings to decide which whiskies are ready for release; age and a distillery's reputation are not the only deciding factors.
