West Cork Maritime Calvados Cask belongs to a limited edition of triple-distilled Irish single malts. After maturing in first-fill bourbon casks, it receives a fruit-forward finish in Calvados casks from Garnier. The bottle contains 0.7 litres, and the whiskey is bottled at 46% without chill filtration or added colouring.

Fresh apple and white pear define its fruity character. Almond, dried fruit and vanilla add nutty and sweet accents, while malt, caramelised sugar, jasmine, nutmeg and delicate pepper provide spice and floral nuances.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals fresh apple and white pear, accompanied by almond, vanilla, caramelised sugar and a hint of lemon balm.
• Palate: On the palate, soft maltiness, rich dried fruit, creamy vanilla and almond mingle with jasmine, nutmeg and white grapes.
• Finish: The finish is balanced and elegant, with lingering toffee sweetness, fruity and floral notes, delicate wood spice and a hint of white pepper.

Distillery/Bottler:

West Cork Distillers was founded in 2003 by childhood friends John O’Connell, Ger McCarthy and Denis McCarthy. Their first distillation trials used two small stills in a room behind Denis’ home in Union Hall. The company moved to Skibbereen in 2014, and its present distillery on Marsh Road opened in 2020.

Distillation, maturation and bottling take place at the Skibbereen site. For this distillery bottling, West Cork Distillers combines its customary triple distillation with two-stage maturation in bourbon and Calvados casks.
