Special Features:

The limited third release in the Icons of Campbeltown series centres on the Wulver, a wolf-like creature from Scottish folklore. The series draws on figures from the historic Campbeltown Market Cross and links them to stories about the solidarity of the local community.

This twelve-year-old unpeated single malt was initially matured in first-fill bourbon casks and then finished for nine months in first-fill Tawny Port casks. It was bottled at a batch strength of 51.7%, with its natural colour and without chill filtration.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: The nose combines juicy, ripe red fruit and dark wild berries with crisp red apple, candied nuts, floral notes, caramel and the sweetness of Port. Dried fruit and a delicate sea breeze provide further accents.
  • Palate: Dried fig, orange peel and a soft praline note unfold on the palate. These are joined by juicy dark fruit, chocolate, creamy caramel and delicate oak spice from the Tawny Port casks.
  • Finish: The finish is long and warming. Dark cocoa, dried fruit, gentle vanilla and oak spice linger alongside fruit, Port and a salty coastal breeze.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glen Scotia was founded as Scotia Distillery in Campbeltown in 1832. By 1835, almost 30 distilleries were operating in what was then a major whisky centre; today, Glen Scotia is one of the three distilleries remaining in the region. Its eventful history includes several closures and reopenings. It is now part of the Loch Lomond Group.

Key elements of the distillery’s 1830s design remain in place today, including the mash tun, still room and dunnage warehouse. Glen Scotia processes Scottish malted barley prepared to its own specifications and combines extended fermentation with slow distillation. Glen Scotia distilled this whisky, matured it in selected casks and released it as a distillery bottling.
