This nine-year-old Glen Scotia was distilled in 2016 and matured in first-fill bourbon cask #1461 until it was bottled in 2025. The whisky was released as an official bottling at a natural cask strength of 58.4%, with natural colour and without chill filtration. The single cask yielded 213 bottles.

Cask #1461 is Cask 3 of 5 in the first collection of the Classic Series, «Behind the Blue Doors». The five-part series brings together rare peated stocks and distinctive cask maturations from Glen Scotia’s dunnage warehouses; three of the five single casks contain peated whisky. In this heavily peated bottling, sweet tropical fruit and vanilla provide a striking counterpoint to campfire smoke, salt and iodine.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals juicy canned pineapple and lime cordial, followed by powerful campfire smoke, salty sea air and iodine.
• Palate: On the palate, powerful campfire smoke lies over buttery shortbread, vanilla cream and salted caramel. Warm oak spice rounds out the flavour profile.
• Finish: The finish is long, sweet and smoky, with vanilla and pronounced oak spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

The history of Glen Scotia’s Campbeltown distillery dates back to 1832. It was acquired by the Loch Lomond Distillery Company in 1996, a business that later developed into today’s Loch Lomond Group. The distillery and its whisky brand remain part of the group’s portfolio.

Glen Scotia produces peated new make during only a short production window. Longer fermentation times and slow, careful distillation shape the distillery’s oily, maritime and saline Campbeltown style. For Classic Series No. 1, Peter Greve and Stephan Ehmke joined Master Distiller Iain McAlister in selecting five distinctive single casks from the dunnage warehouses, including cask #1461 with its heavily peated whisky.
