Special Features:

Glen Scotia Victoriana pays tribute to the bold Campbeltown whiskies of the Victorian era. For this small batch, the whisky first matures in first- and second-fill bourbon casks. It then spends up to twelve months in heavily charred bourbon casks and Pedro Ximénez sherry butts, before the batches are married for a further six months. The renewed charring of the casks is intended to evoke the caramelised notes once produced by direct-fired stills. A proportion of heavily peated spirit contributes a subtle hint of smoke.

Bottled at 54.2%, Victoriana combines sweet, toasted-sugar and fruit notes with blackcurrant and spices; cocoa, dark chocolate and dark fruit linger in the finish. It retains its natural colour and is not chill-filtered. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: On the nose, crème brûlée and melted sugar meet caramelised fruit and oak.
  • Palate: On the palate, toasted sugar and blackcurrant meet spices.
  • Finish: Cocoa, dark chocolate and dark fruit linger on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glen Scotia was founded in Campbeltown as Scotia in 1832 and took its present name in 1939. Since 1996, the distillery has belonged to the company from which the Loch Lomond Group emerged. It is one of the few distilleries remaining from Campbeltown’s once extensive whisky industry.

Glen Scotia uses Scottish malted barley and allows the resulting wort to ferment for an extended period. The distillery then slowly double-distils the fermented liquid in copper stills. Its whiskies mature in warehouses in Campbeltown. Bottling and labelling take place at a sister distillery near Loch Lomond; Victoriana is an official Glen Scotia bottling.
