Special Features:

Kilkerran 12 Year Old is part of Glengyle Distillery’s core range. Its maturation combines 70% bourbon casks and 30% sherry casks. This lightly peated Single Malt is bottled at 46%, without chill filtration or added colouring. This version contains 0.7 litres and is supplied without a gift tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose recalls Turkish delight, pear sweets and marzipan. Subtle peat smoke accompanies a note of marshmallows toasted over a campfire.
• Palate: The whisky opens with a lively palate of lemon cheesecake and an oily texture. Over time, peat smoke, leather and peppery spice develop, accompanied by sweet pudding with toffee sauce.
• Finish: Peat smoke lingers on the finish with an impression of campfire embers. Sweet hints of pecan pie and butterscotch join it.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glengyle is located in Campbeltown and was founded in 1872 by William Mitchell. He had previously run Springbank with his brother John before a dispute led him to establish his own distillery. After its closure in 1925, other uses kept the buildings relatively well preserved. In 2000, Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd, under Hedley G Wright, acquired the site. Following four years of rebuilding, distillation resumed in 2004.

The connection with Springbank also shapes production today: the malt comes from the traditional floor maltings at its sister distillery. The two distilleries share a production team; Glengyle usually distils for around three months, from October to December. Bottling also takes place in Campbeltown. The whisky is named Kilkerran because Glengyle was already protected as a brand name for a Blended Highland Malt. Kilkerran derives from the original place name Ceann Loch Chille Chiarain, linking it to Campbeltown’s history.
