Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch No. 10 is part of Glengyle Distillery’s heavily peated range. For this limited 2024 release, the whisky matured in 90% ex-bourbon and 10% ex-sherry casks. It was bottled at 57.8% without chill filtration or added colouring.

Its character combines sweet dessert notes with peat smoke that feels soft and sweet on the palate. Fruity and floral nuances complement this contrast, while the sweetness carries through into the finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers sweet notes of icing sugar, crème brûlée and custard.
• Palate: On the palate, the peat smoke is soft and sweet, mingling with toasted marshmallows. Subtle hints of gooseberries and Parma violets develop over time.
• Finish: The sweetness persists into the finish, accompanied by notes of orange pulp.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown produces Kilkerran single malt. William Mitchell founded the distillery in 1872 after parting ways with his brother John, with whom he had previously run Springbank. Production ceased in 1925. In 2000, Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd., under Hedley G Wright, acquired the distillery. Following four years of reconstruction, distillation resumed in 2004.

The whisky is named Kilkerran because Glengyle was already a protected brand name for another malt. Kilkerran derives from the old Gaelic place name for Campbeltown. The connection with neighbouring Springbank Distillery also shapes its operations: both distilleries share a production team and coordinate their production schedules. Glengyle usually produces for around three months each year, from October to December. Its malt comes from Springbank’s traditional malting floors; all Kilkerran releases are also bottled in Campbeltown.
