Royal Salute The Signature Blend is a Blended Scotch whose youngest component has matured for at least 21 years. The recipe was created in 1953 for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and has remained unchanged ever since; its name refers to the 21-gun salute. This version comes in the brand’s distinctive sapphire-blue ceramic flagon, whose colour recalls the jewels of the British Crown. It contains 0.7 litres at 40% alcohol and comes with gift packaging.

Fruity sweetness meets floral notes, nutty spice and dry oak in this blend. Restrained smoke complements these impressions without overshadowing the fruit. The long, dry and lightly spicy finish provides a contrast to the sweet pear and orange marmalade.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sweet pear and citrus fruit combine with the delicate scent of autumn flowers. Vanilla and dry oak add to the bouquet, accompanied by subtle sherry notes and a hint of smoke.
• Palate: The palate opens with orange marmalade and fresh pear, followed by bold spice notes and hazelnut. After the intense fruit, a gentle smoky note lingers.
• Finish: The finish is long, dry and lightly spicy.

Distillery/Bottler:

Chivas Brothers is behind the Royal Salute brand. It was created in 1953 for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II; whisky from Strathisla was among the components used in the first blend. The distillery remains a central location for the brand and houses the Royal Salute Vault. Royal Salute uses only whiskies aged for at least 21 years in its blends.

Sandy Hyslop is the fifth Master Blender in Royal Salute’s history. He works with a stock of long-aged whiskies built up by his predecessors. His role is to bring together the different qualities of these whiskies and preserve the brand’s distinctive flavour over the years.
