Special Features:

Cuvée Abel Mestreau combines its Grande Champagne origin with an Extra Selection N°3 limited to 30 numbered bottles. After lengthy maturation, the Cognac is brought to 43% using only demineralised water. Nothing else is added, and its colour remains unchanged. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in black gift packaging with an embossed coat of arms.

Fruit and sweet almond notes shape the opening, while the palate becomes increasingly dry. Oak and a fruity, spicy finish complete this contrast.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: The nose opens with fruit. Marzipan, candy floss and notes reminiscent of almonds and amaretto then emerge.
  • Palate: The Cognac feels soft on the palate, opening with fruit and mirabelle plums. Sherry notes and oak join in before the impression becomes drier.
  • Finish: The medium-length finish combines fruit with spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Frédéric Mestreau & Cie was founded in Saintes in 1808. Guilhem Grosperrin revived the historic Cognac brand after acquiring old bottles from the family's stocks. Today, the house of Grosperrin is behind the Mestreau bottlings.

Grosperrin's approach today grew out of the Cognac trade: Jean Grosperrin became a broker in 1992 and discovered rare stocks held by small distillers. In 1999, he bought old casks of Cognac whose contents his family bottled in small quantities rather than allowing them to disappear into large blends. His son Guilhem took over the business in 2004, expanding its activities to include carefully overseeing maturation and working with winegrowers. Since relocating in 2012, the family house has used historic cellars on the banks of the Charente in Saintes.
