James Hennessy combines a silky texture with a well-defined structure and gentle oak tannins. Yann Fillioux, the seventh cellar master of the Fillioux family, developed the blend with the house’s tasting committee. The selected eaux-de-vie mature for at least six years in oak casks.

Released in 2015 for Hennessy’s 250th anniversary, this creation honours James Hennessy, the founder’s son. It was initially available exclusively through international travel retail. Marc Newson designed the decanter, whose rounded shape defines its presentation. This version contains 1 litre of cognac at 40% alcohol and comes in a gift box.

In the glass, the cognac is amber with pink and bronze highlights. Fruity and nutty impressions meet gentle toasted notes. It can be enjoyed neat or over ice.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Mild tobacco and a hint of smoke accompany the toasted notes. Nuances of roasted almonds and Madagascan vanilla lend a soft, rounded quality to the nose.
• Palate: Fresh apricot appears first on the palate, followed by pistachio and blood peach. The texture is silky yet well structured, with a lightness reminiscent of airy sponge cake.
• Finish: The long, soft finish combines fruity and nutty notes with a subtle spiciness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Richard Hennessy founded the house in Cognac in 1765. His son James took over in 1800 and advanced not only its international expansion but also its cooperage, maturation processes and transport methods. Under his leadership, the family business adopted the name Jas Hennessy & Co. The house is based in France’s Charente region.

Selecting and blending eaux-de-vie are central responsibilities of the tasting committee. Maturation takes place in the house’s traditional cellars, including the Faïencerie cellar. Hennessy keeps particularly old eaux-de-vie in its Paradis cellar. These stocks and the tasting expertise passed down through generations underpin the house’s different blends.
