Hennessy V.S.O.P centres on the interplay of eaux-de-vie matured for different lengths of time. These wine spirits age for between four and 15 years, mostly in previously used French oak casks. During maturation, they are also transferred to other casks. Spirits of different ages and characters are then blended to preserve the Cognac's familiar style.

The history of this blend dates back to 1817, when the future British King George IV ordered a Cognac from Hennessy under the designation Very Superior Old Pale. Today's V.S.O.P has an amber hue with ruby reflections in the glass. It can be enjoyed neat, over ice or in cocktails such as a Sidecar.

This version contains one 0.7-litre bottle at 40% alcohol in red gift packaging with gold-coloured details.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sweet, fresh apricots mingle with candied pineapple and plums. Gingerbread spices and vanilla complement the fruit, alongside woody notes and a light hint of tobacco.
• Palate: The Cognac feels velvety and balanced on the palate. Vanilla and gentle oak meet plums, red grapes, blackberries and mango. Pudding notes, raisins and cinnamon add further detail. Brown sugar and candied fruit remain subtle nuances, accompanied by a hint of spice.
• Finish: The medium-length finish recalls chocolate-covered grapes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hennessy is based in Cognac, France. For its eaux-de-vie, the house uses the heart cut from the double distillation of wine made from grapes grown in the Cognac region. Its tasting committee plays a central role in selection: it meets daily at 11 a.m. to assess numerous spirits and select suitable eaux-de-vie for further maturation.

The collaboration between James Hennessy and Jean Fillioux began in 1806. Renaud Fillioux de Gironde represents the eighth generation of the Fillioux family to continue the work of the Master Blenders. Maturation involves choosing not only the casks but also the ageing cellar: temperature and humidity influence how the spirits develop. The subsequent blending balances their individual differences and preserves the recognisable character of V.S.O.P.
