Jean Fillioux Cigar Club combines a full-bodied character with a supple texture. This Grande Champagne blend is designed to accompany full-bodied cigars. Dark chocolate with a cocoa content of 70–80% also makes a suitable pairing.

Ugni Blanc grapes grown on chalk soils containing limestone and clay form the basis of this cognac. The wine is distilled twice with its lees in a traditional Charentais still. The cognac is bottled at 40% in a slender 0.7-litre bottle presented in a cylindrical gift tube with a wood-effect finish.

Cigar Club won a gold medal at the 2019 Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The cognac has a velvety nose with aromas of vanilla and honey.
• Palate: The palate is full-bodied and supple. Jammy fruit, prune and orange give way to cinnamon and dark chocolate.
• Finish: The very long finish lingers with liquorice, spices and roasted coffee.

Distillery/Bottler:

The history of the family house Jean Fillioux at Domaine de La Pouyade dates back to 1894. The estate is in Juillac-le-Coq, in the heart of Grande Champagne. Christophe Fillioux continues the family tradition, specialising in long-aged eaux-de-vie.

The estate includes 25 hectares of vineyards, planted mainly with Ugni Blanc. Before distillation, the wines undergo malolactic fermentation. Christophe and Pascal Fillioux select casks for maturation directly from various coopers in the Charente. Different oak casks broaden the aromatic possibilities for the eventual blends.
