Special Features:

The marriage of two early vintages and subsequent storage in glass demijohns distinguish this Rémi Landier Très Vieux Fins Bois. The Cognacs from 1972 and 1973 were distilled in a pot still from Ugni-Blanc grapes grown in Fins Bois and initially matured separately in 450-litre casks of Allier and Limousin oak. They were married in 1986 and then stored together in a dry cellar. From 2012, the cuvée rested in glass demijohns. This storage in glass was intended to develop the character known as Old Bottle Flavour, associated with a spirit kept for a long time. In 2024, the cuvée was bottled as the eighth edition of Journal des Kirsch.

The selection for this edition arose from a visit by Sebastian Jäger and Alexandre Vingtier to Rémi Landier's cellar in 2023. The cuvée yielded 150 bottles, each containing 0.7 litres. Its natural cask strength is 52.5%; it was bottled without chill filtration, colouring or added sugar. Its flavour combines intense tropical fruit with mineral impressions and creamy almond and nougat notes.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: The nose reveals Williams pear, toasted almonds, peach and apricot. Pronounced minerality recalls an aged Trockenbeerenauslese Riesling. Fresh grape must, grape seeds and a note reminiscent of candle wax complete the bouquet.
  • Palate: Tropical fruit makes an intense entrance on the palate: freshly grated coconut meets almond mousse, pear and dried vanilla. Ripe mango, fresh grass and passion fruit join a creamy praline and nougat impression.
  • Finish: The finish lingers, remaining distinctly marked by tropical fruit.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Landier family has had roots in Cors in the Charente since 1890. The history of the house includes the Chai des Pères, a former farm belonging to the Benedictine monks of the royal abbey of Bassac, which Rémi Landier acquired in the mid-20th century. The house continues to honour this connection through its PAX emblem.

Rémi Landier and his son Jean-Yves founded the Cognac brand bearing their name in 1973. The family combines winegrowing, distillation and cellar work; its house is based in Rouillac in Fins Bois. When this cuvée was discovered in 2023, Géraldine Landier was leading the family business in its fifth generation. Journal des Kirsch presents selected French spirits from small producers, with label designs inspired by historical illustrated adventure newspapers.
