Toasted French oak shapes Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal. The eaux-de-vie for this blend come exclusively from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne. Immediately after distillation, they enter freshly toasted casks; the French oak used comes predominantly from Limousin. This gives the Cognac its distinctly woody character from the start of maturation. Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau selects aromatic eaux-de-vie that together create a particularly rounded, creamy texture and concentrated nutty notes.

The name recalls the royal permission Louis XV granted Rémy Martin in 1738 to plant new vines. This recognition inspired the expression introduced in 1997. The Cognac has a copper hue in the glass. It can be enjoyed neat, over ice or in cocktails such as a Sidecar. The 0.7-litre bottle contains Cognac at 40% alcohol and comes in a gift tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, plum and fig jam combine with bold oak notes. Toffee, brioche and toasted bread round out the aromas.
• Palate: The Cognac is smooth and rounded on the palate. Butterscotch meets cinnamon and other baking spices, complemented by a hint of dark chocolate.
• Finish: The finish is creamy with a chalky note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 1724, the house of Rémy Martin specialises in Fine Champagne Cognac. This designation of origin denotes a blend of Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, with at least half coming from Grande Champagne. Since 1966, the Alliance Fine Champagne has connected the house with winegrowers and distillers from these two growing areas.

Its production methods include double distillation of the wines with their fine lees in small copper stills. The lees contribute to the aromatic depth of the eaux-de-vie. Before the casks are made, the oak is seasoned outdoors for two to three years so that exposure to the weather can wash out unwanted tannins. In the cellars at Merpins, varying temperatures and humidity levels influence maturation. The Cellar Master oversees cask selection and ageing, composing the blends to maintain each expression's style over the years.
