This decanter release from the Unique Collection pairs a fifty-year-old Bas-Armagnac with gift packaging. After its long maturation in oak casks, the 1974 vintage was bottled in 2024 at 45%. The edition comprises 200 bottles, each containing 0.7 litres. Its colour developed without added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose brings together sweet elder syrup, nectarines, damson plums, orange and red grapes. Cinnamon almonds and caramel sweets are also present, while lilac and a light oak note round out the bouquet.
• Palate: On the palate, apricot jam, juicy apple, blackberry and mandarin sit alongside liquorice and oak. Orange blossom and wine gums add to the layered impressions.
• Finish: The fruitiness lingers on the finish, accompanied by rock sugar and mild spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

The history of Maison Darroze begins with Jean Darroze’s restaurant in Villeneuve-de-Marsan. There, his son Francis discovered the wines and eaux-de-vie of Gascony. From the late 1960s onwards, Francis increasingly visited estates in Bas-Armagnac, selected spirits and took charge of their further maturation and bottling.

Today, Darroze works with around twenty estates. The selected Armagnacs continue to mature in the house’s own cellars in Roquefort and Labastide-d’Armagnac. Marc Darroze, who joined his father in 1994, leads the house. Its approach preserves the origins of individual estates in small, traceable batches rather than blurring their distinctive qualities in a single blend.
