Askeim (Smögen) 8 y.o. - Golden Promise
Special features: This bottling marks the start of the Askeim series from Smögen, which focuses on rare and historically significant barley varieties. The whisky matured in small First Fill Bourbon Quarter Casks and uses the traditionally popular Golden Promise barley from the 20th century, known for its intense flavor. Production takes place in small batches at the micro-distillery, which operates its own grain cultivation and places special emphasis on character rather than mass production.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Malty, with fruity accents and a fine smokiness from the light peat.
Palate: Viscous and full-bodied, characterized by malty notes, sweet fudge, and spicy ginger.
Finish: Lingering, with creamy oak and subtle toast notes from the small bourbon barrels.
Distillery/Bottler: Smögen is one of the most renowned micro-distilleries in Sweden and stands for careful craftsmanship and a spirit of innovation. The operation, whose daily production is limited to around 115 liters, also controls the entire manufacturing process including its own grain cultivation. This philosophy is reflected in the aroma of the whiskies, which impress with distinct character and quality.
