Special Features:

The Fourth Release 2023 is Fettercairn’s fourth annual 16-year-old expression. This Highland single malt combines whisky from first-fill ex-Port Pipes with whisky matured entirely in ex-bourbon casks. It was bottled in 2023 at 46.4% ABV, without chill filtration or added colouring.

Fettercairn’s tropical-fruit house style remains evident in this release. Berries and cocoa join sweet notes of almonds, vanilla and caramel, along with plum, ginger cake, cherries and oak spice. The bottle comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, tropical fruit and berries mingle with rich cocoa and sugared almonds, with a further floral accent.
• Palate: On the palate, blackberries and raspberries meet sweet vanilla and caramel.
• Finish: The long finish brings plum, freshly baked ginger cake and cherries, followed by lingering mature oak spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Sir Alexander Ramsay founded Fettercairn Distillery in 1824 at the foot of the Cairngorms. The distillery makes the single malt in this original bottling, and Fettercairn is part of Whyte & Mackay Ltd’s brand portfolio.

Since the 1950s, a copper ring has directed water over the upper part of the stills, wetting their necks. This cools the copper, causing more vapour inside to condense and flow back while lighter vapours continue to rise. The process contributes to the whisky’s tropical-fruit character, which the cask selection for this edition complements.
