Special Features:

Aurora Batch 1 combines unpeated and peated Swedish single malt with a peat content of 2 ppm. The composition comprises 50% whisky from second-fill bourbon casks, 35% whisky from second-fill PX sherry casks and 15% whisky from first-fill Oloroso sherry casks. It is bottled at 46% vol., with no added colouring and without chill filtration.

Aurora Batch 1 was bottled on 2 September 2025 and carries no age statement. The whiskies used were between 5.94 and 8.52 years old, with an average age of 7.0 years.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines pear, vanilla sugar and preserved cherries with milk chocolate.
• Palate: On the palate, gooseberry, raisin, dried papaya and Earl Grey create a fruity yet slightly bitter balance.
• Finish: Apple and cedarwood linger in the finish alongside light tobacco notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

High Coast Distillery distils the whisky, creates Aurora’s composition itself and bottles it as an official distillery bottling. The distillery is located in Sörviken, Sweden, on the Ångermanälven river; High Coast Distillery AB is also the company behind the High Coast Whisky brand.

The company was founded in 2007 by a group of whisky enthusiasts. Its copper stills arrived in 2010, when the first cask was also filled. To produce a fruit-forward new make spirit, the distillery uses clear wort, French distiller’s yeast and an average fermentation time of 82.5 hours. It applies different cut points when distilling its unpeated and peated new make spirits.

The large warehouses are unheated and exposed to northern Sweden’s pronounced seasonal temperature fluctuations. This changes the pressure inside the casks and encourages interaction between the whisky and the oak. The cold water of the Ångermanälven also enables efficient condensation during distillation.
