Special Features:
High Coast Harbours Collection 01 Ulvöhamn launches the harbour series with a precisely defined two-component recipe. The bottling combines 82% unpeated whisky from bourbon casks with 18% peated whisky from Quercus mongolica casks and is bottled at 51% ABV.
The large unpeated bourbon-cask base and the smaller peated proportion form two clearly distinct components of the composition. In the finished whisky, fruit and spice combine with a light note of peat.
The Harbours Collection further develops the lightly peated Origins whisky Hav and follows significant harbours in Höga Kusten. Ulvöhamn is the sheltered harbour between the two Ulvö islands. Its aromatic spectrum ranges from apricot, orange peel and pear through ginger and anise to cedarwood, tobacco and light peat.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: On the nose, apricot, ginger, vanilla and bread spices combine to create a fruity, spicy impression.
- Palate: On the palate, orange peel, pear and vanilla meet a light note of peat.
- Finish: Cedarwood and anise shape the finish, accompanied by a hint of tobacco.
Distillery/Bottler:
Ulvöhamn is a bottling from High Coast Distillery AB in Bjärtrå on the Ångermanälven river. The distillery began producing whisky there in 2010. Its warehouses are unheated, exposing the maturing whisky to the pronounced temperature fluctuations of northern Sweden’s climate.
High Coast distils unpeated and peated spirit using different cut points and experiments with various species of oak. For Ulvöhamn, the unpeated whisky from bourbon casks is combined with the peated proportion from Quercus mongolica casks.
