Special Features:
High Coast Small Batch 26 was created exclusively for Sansibar-Whisky and the German market. Following the distillery’s renaming, it was the first exclusive Small Batch release for Germany. High Coast married the whiskies from a 170-litre bourbon barrel and a 110-litre Oloroso sherry cask. The whisky was bottled in October 2022 at a cask strength of 56%, yielding a total of 610 bottles.
The composition of the two differently sized casks combines vanilla, oak and spices with a diverse range of fruit notes. Its sensory spectrum extends from peach, banana and coconut through honey and pear to cinnamon, citrus, ginger, wood and a delicate smoky note.
The Small Batch series uses one or a small number of casks for selected markets. This gives each release an individual profile shaped by its particular cask selection.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: On the nose, sweet honey and ripe pear mingle with a delicate smoky note.
- Palate: The whisky feels silky on the palate, combining vanilla and cinnamon with sweet and spicy notes.
- Finish: The finish is long and warming, with citrus, ginger and wood.
Distillery/Bottler:
High Coast Distillery AB is located in Bjärtrå on the Ångermanälven river. The distillery began producing whisky in 2010 and changed its former name, Box Destilleri AB, to High Coast Distillery AB in 2018. High Coast produced the whisky for Small Batch 26; it matured in the selected casks and was bottled as an official distillery release.
The unheated warehouses experience the pronounced temperature fluctuations of northern Sweden. These fluctuations alter the whisky’s pressure and expansion, influencing its interaction with the oak during maturation.
