Special Features:

This limited Scarabus release is an Islay single malt matured for 30 years in first-fill bourbon casks. Hunter Laing bottled the whisky in 2025 at 42.6%. The Islay distillery that produced it is not known.

Sea breeze, salt and smoked ham give the whisky a maritime, savoury character, joined by earthy notes. Gentle peat, orange, raspberry, marzipan, toffee, vanilla and old oak also emerge. It is bottled without added colouring or chill filtration.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, smoked ham and sea breeze meet orange, raspberry, marzipan and old oak.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied on the palate, bringing together earthy notes, maritime salt and smoked ham with gentle peat, toffee, vanilla and citrus fruit.
• Finish: The finish is long and smooth, leaving gentle smoke and a salty maritime note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hunter Laing & Co. Ltd was founded in Glasgow in 2013. The Laing family has worked in whisky for three generations. Hunter Laing is an independent bottler that also produces blended whiskies. The company sources casks from cooperages in Scotland and the United States, among other places, and arranges for Scottish distilleries to fill them with new-make spirit. The whisky matures in those casks at the distilleries or in the company’s own warehouses. Hunter Laing monitors its development and selects whiskies for bottling. Scarabus is the company’s Islay single malt brand. Its name comes from an area of the island and means roughly ‘rocky place’.
