Special Features:

The Empress is a 17-year-old blended Scotch from North Star Spirits’ Tarot series. The bottling combines 32% malt whisky with 68% grain whisky. Distilled in 2007, the whisky matured in a refill butt and was bottled in 2025 at 43.5%, in a release of 600 bottles.

Its aromatic profile combines honey-coated hazelnuts and a delicate sea-salt note with a buttery biscuit base. The finish brings spice and sweetness together with a light note of peat and tart bitterness.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines honey-coated hazelnuts with a delicate sea-salt note. Lacquered wooden furniture, polished leather, heather, dates, chocolate fudge, burnt brown sugar and apple peel follow, along with a hint reminiscent of old Armagnac.
• Palate: On the palate, a buttery biscuit base comes first. Leather, furniture polish and robust wood spice follow before light peat, cooling menthol and mint, amaro, orange peel, long-steeped Earl Grey tea and bitter dark chocolate emerge.
• Finish: The finish is spicy and sweet. A light note of peat and tart bitterness accompany the lingering flavours.

Founder Iain Croucher traces the independent bottler’s origins to the purchase of his first parcel of whisky. The team handles the practical work itself, from bottling to transferring spirits into other casks.
