Special Features:

This 18-year-old Irish Single Malt brings together two distinct maturation stages: fifteen years in bourbon casks followed by three years in casks that previously held the Argentinian Enzo Bianchi Malbec. The extended finish adds the fruitiness and body of Malbec to the smooth Irish malt, giving it additional structure.

Created in collaboration with Bodegas Bianchi, this edition comprises 900 bottles of 0.7 litres and is bottled at 43%. Roberto Appendino, a Temple Bar employee originally from Argentina, helped bring together Irish whiskey and Argentinian wine. The whiskey contains no added colouring and is non-chill-filtered.

Alongside its fruity and spicy impressions, the whiskey also reveals citrus notes of lemon and orange peel.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: On the nose, ripe fruit combines with subtle oak and spice notes. Dark chocolate, raspberry and a creamy impression add to the aromas.
  • Palate: On the palate, the whiskey is smooth and full-bodied. Caramel, dark fruit and plums meet toasted wood, spices and sweet vanilla.
  • Finish: The finish is long-lasting, rounded and complex.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Temple Bar in Dublin was founded in 1840 as a wine and spirits merchant. Tom Cleary recalls how his father and grandfather had been blending and bottling whiskey for the establishment since the 1920s. Selected casks were stored in traditional pub cellars; the whiskies were chosen at the right time and blended to create a distinctive house style. The Cleary family continues this practice of selection, blending and bottling today.

For this Single Malt edition, The Temple Bar Whiskey Company collaborates with Bodegas Bianchi. The Argentinian winery supplies the casks previously used for Enzo Bianchi Malbec. This partnership brings a specific connection to winemaking in Mendoza to the Dublin establishment’s whiskey selection.
