Special Features:

An old Cognac cask shapes the final stage of maturation of this Spring Blend. The two Dictador rums from the 1975 and 1977 vintages initially matured in American oak before travelling to the Cognac house Hardy in France. There, cellar master Mickaël Bouilly blended the rums and matured them for a further 13 months in a Limousin oak cask dating from 1969.

A floral character of white flowers and lavender sits alongside honey, almonds and pineapple. Sweet dessert notes add another dimension, leading to a fruity finish with hints of cigar. This bronze-coloured rum was released in 2019 at 42.1%, in an edition of 369 numbered bottles. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in a black gift box bearing the golden fingerprints of Hernan Parra and Mickaël Bouilly as a visual expression of their collaboration.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: On the nose, syrup and honey mingle with almonds, pollen and lavender. Chocolate adds to the bouquet, while delicate leather accents remain in the background.
  • Palate: On the palate, white flowers and lavender meet pineapple. Crème brûlée, vanilla and lightly toasted almonds complement the floral and fruity impressions.
  • Finish: Notes of crème anglaise and cigar linger in the fruity finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Dictador has its roots in Cartagena, Colombia. Master Blender Hernan Parra continues his family's rum-making tradition in its third generation. For the 2 Masters series, Dictador entrusts selected mature rums to specialists from other spirits and wine houses. They continue the maturation in their own cellars, contributing their experience with different stocks of casks.

The partner for this edition is the Cognac house Hardy, founded in 1863. Its cellar master, Mickaël Bouilly, comes from a winegrowing family; both his father and grandfather worked in the region's vineyards. At Hardy, he oversees an extensive collection of eaux-de-vie ageing in thousands of casks. He brought this experience to the blending and further maturation of the Colombian rums for the Spring Blend.
