Special Features:

Japanese bitter orange peel is at the heart of Etsu Double Orange, alongside juniper berries, liquorice and angelica roots, and coriander seeds. The botanicals macerate in alcohol for seven days and are removed before distillation. The distillate is then diluted to 43% with water from the Ōu Mountains.

Green bitter orange peel gives the gin body and its citrus character. Coriander adds some sweetness and a minty nuance, while juniper contributes a peppery note. Liquorice root brings anise, wood and slight bitterness; angelica root also adds bitterness and warmth. The gin is suited to a gin and tonic or as a cocktail base.

Etsu Double Orange won gold at the Global Gin Masters in 2022 and at the Spirits Masters Asia in both 2021 and 2022. This version contains a 0.7-litre bottle in gift packaging.

Distillery/Bottler:

Akita Distillery is situated in the north of the Japanese island of Honshū, near the Ōu Mountains. Alongside Etsu Double Orange, it also produces Etsu Double Yuzu and Etsu Sakura. The distillery uses sugarcane alcohol as the base for maceration. Once the botanicals have been removed, the alcohol is diluted to 30% before a single distillation in a copper pot still; the distillate leaves the still at 65%. Water from the Ōu Mountains is then used to bring it to bottling strength. Before bottling, a fine-mesh filter removes impurities without chill-filtering the gin.
