Bulldog adds unusual botanicals such as white poppy, lotus leaves and longan, also known as Dragon Eye, to the classic juniper foundation of a London Dry Gin. The recipe contains twelve botanicals from eight countries, also including angelica, coriander, lemon, orris root, liquorice, cassia, almonds and lavender. The blend brings together spicy and floral impressions with citrus freshness without displacing the juniper.

To extract their aromas, the botanicals are steeped in neutral grain spirit at 96% in a copper still. During the subsequent distillation, the heads and tails are separated out. The resulting aromatic distillate at 76% is blended with additional wheat-based neutral spirit and diluted with demineralised water to a bottling strength of 40%. Aroma and flavour are checked before bottling.

The dark bottle with its raised collar is part of Bulldog's distinctive appearance. This version contains 1 litre and comes without gift packaging. As a base for gin and tonic or a Tom Collins, the gin contributes juniper and citrus notes without strongly overshadowing the other ingredients.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, juniper and subtle lavender meet delicate citrus notes of lime and sweet orange peel.
• Palate: On the palate, the juniper initially recalls pine needles. Angelica becomes prominent on the mid-palate, while floral nuances remain in the background. Towards the end, the gin feels slightly astringent.
• Finish: Juniper lingers on the finish. Light astringency and a faint alcoholic aftertaste accompany the rapid fading of the flavours.

Distillery/Bottler:

American entrepreneur and former investment banker Anshuman Vohra developed Bulldog and first launched the gin in the USA in 2007. Expansion into Europe followed two years later. The brand has belonged to Campari Group since 2017. Vohra wanted to create a versatile gin combining traditional juniper aromas with a softer texture and floral freshness.

Bulldog is produced by G&J Distillers in Warrington, England. The company's gin-making history dates back to 1761. Alongside its own brands, the business also produces gin for other brands and combines distillation with its own bottling facilities. For Bulldog, Campari Group works with the master distillers and oversees the individual production stages.
