For Spit-Roasted Pineapple Gin, whole pineapples are roasted on a spit with Demerara sugar until they caramelise. The fruit is then combined with gin. Roasting is therefore an actual production step, not merely a reference in the name.

The idea draws on the pineapple gins popular in the 1920s. Here, the fruit’s sweetness meets tart accents and caramel notes. This English bottling has an alcohol content of 46% and comes in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Sweet, juicy pineapple leads on the nose. It recalls baked fruit, accompanied by dark caramel and lime.
• Palate: On the palate, sweet and tart pineapple notes combine with lime and caramel. Hints of pancakes and a delicate juniper note complete the picture.
• Finish: Delicate juniper notes emerge on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

That Boutique-y Gin Company is part of Atom Brands and was launched in 2017. The brand works with different distilleries and brands on gin bottlings and experimental recipes. Its initial range comprised eleven gins. Alongside fruit gins, the range includes Moonshot Gin, whose botanicals were sent to near space before processing.

Atom Brands grew out of spirits retailer Master of Malt and began operating in 2011 with Ableforth’s Bathtub Gin. The development of new drinks gained a dedicated setting in 2019 with Atom Labs, where ideas are turned into prototypes and tested using the expertise of the in-house team.
