Special Features:
This flavoured gin brings rhubarb and ginger together with a traditional juniper base. It starts with Edinburgh Gin Classic, whose recipe includes 14 botanicals, among them lemongrass and mulberries. Natural rhubarb and ginger are added after distillation: the ingredients are pressed and then infused together in the gin. The fruity, spicy flavouring thus complements its classic gin character.
Introduced in May 2019, this bottling grew out of the flavour combination of Rhubarb & Ginger Liqueur, but at 40% alcohol it is a gin in its own right. Fruity, slightly tart and jam-like notes meet sweetness, distinct pine notes and warming ginger spice. Mediterranean tonic water suits a gin and tonic; a kaffir lime leaf and lemon, or a strip of rhubarb, make suitable garnishes. The gin also works in Martini and Sour cocktails.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: On the nose, lively rhubarb aromas combine with juniper and gentle sweetness.
- Palate: On the palate, juniper balances the pronounced tartness. Citrus notes and spice complement it, while ginger adds warming, aromatic and earthy notes.
- Finish: The finish is smooth and rounded. Spice lingers, accompanied by warming, earthy ginger notes.
Distillery/Bottler:
Edinburgh Gin was founded in 2010 by Alex and Jane Nicol. Initially, they sold their gin at garden shows and events around Edinburgh. From these local beginnings, they developed a range encompassing classic dry gins, fruity infusions and experimental recipes. Head Distiller David Wilkinson and Distillery Manager Finlay Nicol helped shape this development from 2014 onwards.
In 2024, Edinburgh Gin moved production from its Rutland Place and Leith sites to its new distillery, The Arches, in central Edinburgh. It houses three custom-built Carl stills. Alongside production, the distillery offers tours, tastings and a Gin School, where visitors can create their own gin. Combining traditional distillation with subsequent infusion is one of the production methods Edinburgh Gin uses for its flavoured range.
