Special Features:

Green apple takes centre stage in Bembel Gin. The idea draws on Hesse’s cider culture, reinterpreting it in a gin with deliberately restrained juniper. The juniper becomes most apparent on the finish. Limes, citrus peel and lavender add citrus and floral accents to the apple note.

The stoneware bottle with its blue floral motifs also references the Bembel, Hesse’s traditional cider jug. It contains 0.7 litres of gin at 43% alcohol. The design received the German Design Award 2019.

Its apple character works in both a Gin and Tonic and a Gin Fizz. In a Frankfurter Fizz, the gin’s fruit aromas combine with lime and lemon.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: A pronounced apple aroma is sweetish and fresh.
• Palate: A strong apple note also leads on the palate. The fruitiness is followed by a slight bitterness.
• Finish: Juniper comes forward on the finish, giving it its characteristic gin flavour.

Distillery/Bottler:

Jorin Karner and Andy Sanders are the people behind Bembel Gin. They first developed Private Gin, a kit for infusing your own gin creations. Bembel Gin followed as their second product, giving greater expression to their roots in Hesse. Rather than creating a strongly juniper-led gin, they chose apple as the defining aroma, with juniper providing an accent on the finish.

This regional connection shapes not only the flavour but also the packaging: since cider in Hesse is traditionally served from stoneware jugs, the founders also chose an earthenware bottle for their apple gin.
