Chinese gunpowder green tea and Irish meadowsweet come together in Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, whose citrus-led recipe contains twelve botanicals. The meadowsweet is gathered around Drumshanbo. Eight ingredients are distilled in copper pot stills, while another four impart their aromas through vapour infusion. This second group includes the citrus fruits and gunpowder tea.

Distillation takes ten hours. The gin then rests for 21 days before undergoing light chill filtration, which preserves essential citrus oils. Bottled at 43%, it combines fresh citrus notes with tea, juniper and spicy botanicals. For a gin and tonic, pair it with high-quality tonic water and a generous wedge of red grapefruit.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Pronounced citrus aromas lead on the nose. A subtle hint of tropical fruit adds to the fragrance.
• Palate: The gin feels light on the palate, with notes of mint and plenty of juniper.
• Finish: The finish is tingling and dry. Grapefruit peel and a delicate, powdery floral note linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

PJ and Denise Rigney founded The Shed Distillery in 2014 in Drumshanbo, County Leitrim, Ireland. The town lies beside Lough Allen, at the foot of Sliabh an Iarainn. Rigney's travels and his interest in different plants and spices inspired a gin that brings international botanicals together with native Irish flora.

The distillery uses copper distillation equipment custom-built by Arnold Holstein. Of its five pot stills, two are dedicated to Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin and three to whiskey; separate copper columns are used for vodka production. The botanicals are also prepared on site. The team fills the gin bottles by hand, labels them and seals them in Drumshanbo.
