Bladderwrack, scurvy grass and ground ivy give Edinburgh Seaside Gin its coastal character. Alongside juniper, these plants, gathered on beaches around Edinburgh, lend the London Dry Gin mineral, herbal and subtly salty accents. Seaside was launched in 2015 and developed in collaboration with the International Centre for Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University. The gin is made in small batches. Originally offered as a limited edition, it has since become part of Edinburgh Gin's core range.

At 43%, the gin combines a light character with gentle sweetness and maritime minerality. Grassy herbs and pine-like juniper complement its fresh, savoury-salty side, while grains of paradise, coriander and cardamom add further spice notes. Bladderwrack contributes sweetness and a sea-air aroma, while ground ivy adds fresh grassy notes to the clean finish. As a gin and tonic, it pairs well with Mediterranean Tonic and grapefruit peel or thyme; a dry Martini also highlights its coastal character.

The bottle is made from glass with 49% recycled content.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, fresh sweetness combines with savoury hints of sea air and a subtle seaweed note.
• Palate: On the palate, pine-like juniper and savoury seaweed notes meet gentle sweetness and a subtle saltiness. Herbal and grassy impressions complement the flavour.
• Finish: The finish is clean and fresh. Mineral aromas combine with grassy notes from ground ivy and herbal, lightly spicy hints from scurvy grass.

Distillery/Bottler:

Edinburgh Gin was founded in 2010 and now distils at The Arches on East Market Street in central Edinburgh. Opened in December 2024, the city distillery combines historic vaulted spaces with two custom-made copper stills named Annie and Lina. A smaller still, Matilda, is used to develop new recipes. Since 2016, the brand and distillery have belonged to the family-owned Scottish spirits company Ian Macleod Distillers.
