Special Features:

Yuzu and bitter orange peel shape Etsu The Original. The recipe also includes juniper berries, coriander seeds, liquorice root and angelica root. The botanicals macerate in alcohol for 22 hours before being distilled together. This version contains a 0.7-litre bottle at 43% alcohol in gift packaging.

The individual botanicals complement the citrus profile in different ways: coriander brings a light sweetness and a minty nuance, while liquorice contributes anise-like and woody tones with some bitterness. Angelica root adds bitter notes and warmth on the palate. Etsu can be enjoyed with tonic or as a base for cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Floral aromas mingle with subtle vegetal notes on the nose. Fresh yuzu peel and delicate citrus blossom stand out.
• Palate: Lively citrus notes meet mild peppery spice on the palate. The gin feels fresh and balanced, with a hint of liquorice complementing the flavour.
• Finish: The finish feels soft and silky. Floral nuances linger, maintaining a rounded impression.

Distillery/Bottler:

Asahikawa Distillery is located on Hokkaido, Japan’s northern main island. Here, Etsu is made using molasses-based alcohol. After maceration, it undergoes a single distillation with the botanicals in a copper still, producing a distillate at 83% alcohol. Water from the Taisetsu mountains brings Etsu The Original down to 43%. Before bottling, a fine-mesh filter removes impurities. The distillery does not use chill filtration.
