Lemon and juniper define Feckin Irish Gin from the Echlinville Distillery. Its botanicals include fresh lemon, lemon peel, juniper berries, coriander seeds, angelica root, orris root and cassia bark. Citrus notes combine with herbal tones and an initially slightly bitter taste.

The name plays on the Irish expression “feck” while also referring to Saint Fechin. Alongside gin, the Feckin family includes whiskey and vodka. The gin has an alcohol content of 40% and comes in a 0.7-litre bottle. For a gin and tonic, serve it with tonic water and a slice of lemon.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals candied lemons and sweet lemon sherbet, accompanied by a hint of juniper.
• Palate: Lemon and juniper lead on the palate. Herbal notes complement the flavour; an initial bitterness gives way to an interplay of lemon and coriander.
• Finish: The delicate finish recalls lemon cupcakes with buttercream.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Echlinville Distillery is located on the Ards Peninsula in County Down, Northern Ireland. Shane and Lynn Braniff purchased the historic estate in 2007; the distillery received its distilling licence in 2013. It filled its first whiskey casks on 5 August that year.

Farming and distilling are closely linked at Echlinville. For its single-estate spirits, the distillery grows barley on its own farm and malts it on its own malting floor, where the grain is turned by hand. The stillhouse houses copper pot stills and column stills. Alongside Feckin, its portfolio includes Dunville's Irish Whiskey, Echlinville Gin and Weavers Gin.
