Special Features:

Juniper takes centre stage in Freedom Rebels’ recipe of ten botanicals. These include thyme and grapefruit zest, which give the gin herbal and fresh, bitter accents. The botanicals are organically grown. The gin is produced in small batches in Berlin; the black bottle contains 0.5 litres at 50% alcohol.

The recipe was developed to work with different tonics. A classic Indian tonic highlights the citrus notes, while a dry tonic puts greater emphasis on the juniper. A Mediterranean tonic brings the herbal notes to the fore. At the World Gin Awards 2025, Freedom Rebels was Germany’s country winner in the Contemporary Style Gin category. The alcohol is well integrated.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is light and restrained. Delicate hints of bath soap and menthol meet subtle herbal notes, pine and fresh lemon peel.
• Palate: The gin is full-bodied and layered on the palate. Abundant juniper and classic botanicals combine with a pleasant sweetness.
• Finish: The gin has a long finish in which warm spice notes emerge.

Distillery/Bottler:

Freedom Rebels is the brand of Berlin-based BERLIN BEVERAGES SAG GmbH. Marcel Schmitt and his co-founder Stefan found the inspiration for the brand in February 2020 after visiting a bar together in Kreuzberg. Disappointed with the gin and tonics they drank there, they decided to develop their own gin. The connection to Kreuzberg also appears on the bottle: the red line in the logo traces the outline of Kreuzberg 36.

Bottling is carried out by a workshop for people with disabilities in Berlin-Marzahn. The company mainly uses previously used materials for packaging and shipping. Transport containers for production and bottling are reused in a closed loop.
