Special Features:

Arbequina olives, basil, rosemary and thyme give Gin Mare its Mediterranean character. They are joined by juniper, coriander, green cardamom, orange and lemon. The botanicals are macerated and distilled separately, allowing each ingredient’s contribution to be incorporated individually into the gin’s blend. It is bottled at 42.7% alcohol.

Alongside herbs and spices, citrus notes form part of its aromatic profile. Rosemary contributes a woody fragrance, while basil adds aniseed notes and balsamic accents reminiscent of cinnamon and camphor. The Arbequina olives bring a savoury character and green, grassy aromas reminiscent of tomatoes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Gin Mare is made at Destilerías Miquel Guansé in Vilanova on Spain’s Mediterranean coast. Its origins lie in an 18th-century chapel near Barcelona, where a custom-made still was installed. The chapel and still remain at the entrance to the distillery. Its connection to Mediterranean cuisine is particularly evident in the choice of olives and culinary herbs as botanicals.

The Arbequina olive presents the distillery team with a particular challenge: its acidity changes from harvest to harvest, altering the starting conditions for each distillation. Processing the botanicals separately is an essential part of making Gin Mare.
