Tropical fruit and spices define Gin Sul Jardim do Paraíso Zanzibar, the second Island Edition release after Madeira. Zanzibar provides the inspiration, while the Distilled Dry Gin is made in Hamburg. Mango and passion fruit meet ginger, cardamom and nutmeg, with citrus and hibiscus notes adding further dimensions.

Four individual distillates are produced for this edition and then blended together. Maceration times are tailored to the respective botanicals: during this soaking stage, their aromatic compounds pass into the alcohol before distillation takes place. Processing them separately and subsequently blending the distillates allows the fruity and spicy components to be balanced precisely.

The 2025 edition was made as a single production batch of 10,500 bottles. Each bottle bears the month of production and the distiller’s signature. The gin is offered at 45% alcohol in a 0.5-litre bottle. This version comes without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals ripe fruit and delicate spice.
• Palate: On the palate, the gin feels warm and velvety, with tropical fruitiness. Nutmeg and piquant ginger add spicy accents.
• Finish: Cardamom lingers in the long finish, accompanied by a slightly peppery note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Gin Sul is made at the Altonaer Spirituosen Manufaktur in Hamburg-Altona. The brand has its roots on the Costa Vicentina in south-western Portugal and combines this heritage with production in Hamburg. Through the Island Edition, it extends its concept to individual islands and their distinctive aromatic characteristics.

The manufactory uses copper stills made by Arnold Holstein in Markdorf on Lake Constance. Its two stills have capacities of 100 and 300 litres respectively, and distillation takes place in small runs. This small-scale approach provides the framework for developing the different Gin Sul bottlings.
