Rose and cucumber essences give Hendrick's its distinctive character. They complement eleven botanicals processed in two different types of still. Only after distillation are the two distillates blended and the essences added. This edition contains the classic Hendrick's Gin at 44% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle, together with a teacup in gift packaging.

The rose essence is made from oil obtained by pressing Bulgarian Damask rose petals. For the cucumber essence, Dutch cucumbers are crushed with water, and their aromatic compounds are extracted through cold distillation close to freezing point. Adding these two essences distinguishes this method from flavouring solely during distillation.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals subtle notes of rose, cucumber and juniper.
• Palate: Juniper becomes more pronounced on the palate. Rose petals, cucumber and citrus notes complement it.
• Finish: The finish is long and slightly dry.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hendrick's is made in Girvan on the Scottish coast of South Ayrshire. William Grant & Sons is the company behind the brand; Lesley Gracie developed the gin together with David Stewart. When it opened in 2018, the Hendrick's Gin Palace had two still houses with four Bennett and two Carter-Head stills. These included the historic stills dating from 1860 and 1948, along with their replicas. A laboratory and two greenhouses provide space for experimenting with additional botanicals. Production continues in batches of 500 litres.

The two distillation methods draw out different facets of the botanicals. In the Bennett stills, the botanicals steep in diluted neutral alcohol for at least 14 hours before distillation. The stills are then heated slowly to prevent the juniper berries from scorching. In the Carter-Head process, by contrast, alcohol vapour passes through a basket containing the botanical ingredients. These methods produce a fuller-bodied distillate and a lighter, floral one, which are blended together for Hendrick's. The stills are operated by hand.
