Hendrick's Sunspell draws inspiration from sunsets behind the island of Ailsa Craig off Scotland's west coast. Master Distiller Lesley Gracie developed this limited edition for her Cabinet of Curiosities, Hendrick's experimental range. Sunspell was introduced in autumn 2024 for international travel retail.

The recipe combines selected botanicals from classic Hendrick's with additional ingredients that remain secret. Citrus and spice define this interpretation, while rose and cucumber maintain its connection to the house style. Alongside the fresh citrus emphasis, gentle warmth and spice develop as you drink. The design also reflects the theme: pink, purple and orange evoke the colours of the evening sky.

This bottling contains 1 litre of gin at 43.4% alcohol and is offered without gift packaging. For a straightforward long drink, Sunspell works well with tonic and a slice of cucumber. It can also be paired with apple juice.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Vibrant citrus notes lead on the nose, accompanied by gentle spice with a green character.
• Palate: The gin is full-bodied on the palate. Aromatic spices accompany pine-like juniper before the citrus notes become more pronounced. Rose and cucumber round out the flavour profile.
• Finish: Spice and citrus notes remain balanced on the finish, leaving a clean, refreshing aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hendrick's belongs to William Grant & Sons and was launched in 1999. The gin is produced at the Hendrick's Gin Palace in Girvan, South Ayrshire. Opened in 2018, the site houses production facilities, experimental stills and two greenhouses where botanicals are grown for the development of further recipes. Lesley Gracie is responsible for production and the development of the editions there.

A key feature of Hendrick's production is the use of two different types of still: Bennet and Carter-Head. For the classic gin, these produce separate distillates which, despite using the same botanicals, differ in aroma, flavour and mouthfeel before being blended together. This approach provides the background to the house's production; the Sunspell recipe adds its own citrus and spice accents.
