Fresh blueberries give Huckleberry Gin its name and fruit-forward character. The recipe contains 22 natural botanicals. Alongside juniper and angelica root, these include ginger, cinnamon, lavender, lemon peel, elderflower, hop flowers, peppermint and raspberries. Blueberries and raspberries in particular contribute to its berry fruitiness and sweetish aftertaste.

The gin is distilled in a wood-fired copper still at a traditional family distillery in the Black Forest. Its style places it among New Western gins: fruit takes the lead, while juniper remains discreet. It is bottled at 44% alcohol in a 0.5-litre bottle and contains no colouring.

The dark green bottle has a vintage-style label with an ornamental border and an illustration of two friends. The gin works equally well in a Dry Martini or a Gin & Tonic. Light, dry tonics allow its berry and citrus notes to shine.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Blueberries lead on the nose, followed by fresh citrus notes and a hint of juniper. Floral and spicy touches round out the aroma.
• Palate: The gin feels smooth and lively on the palate. Blueberries and citrus define the flavour before further botanical notes and a gentle touch of juniper gradually unfold.
• Finish: The finish is long. Blueberries and citrus remain present, accompanied by a light juniper note and sweetish berry touches.

Distillery/Bottler:

Huckleberry Gin was created by Munich-based Max Elsholtz and Jens Lauckner. Their idea for a gin of their own developed among friends into the first product from Finest Beverages GmbH. A distiller friend in the Black Forest helped bring their vision of a blueberry-led gin to life. The wordplay on Huckleberry Finn also reflects the connection between friendship and shared adventures.

Production brings together the Munich founders and a family distillery in the Black Forest now run by its third generation. In the early days, Max and Jens personally handled bottling, corking and labelling. Their friend Julian, a designer, created the label; its two illustrated figures echo the theme of friendship.
