Neroli oil from bitter orange blossoms gives this Dry Gin its distinctive focus. The oil is obtained by steam distillation. More than a tonne of blossoms is needed to produce one kilogram, making neroli a precious ingredient. That Boutique-y Gin Company combines this pronounced floral character with juniper, citrus fruit and spicy accents.

Grace J. Ward's illustration reflects the gin's aromatic character: blue juniper berries appear among white bitter orange blossoms and green foliage. The gin is offered at 46% in a 0.7-litre bottle. Batch 1 comprises 3,850 bottles. A French 75 is a recommended cocktail choice; a Gin and Tonic made with a herb-forward tonic also suits its character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens with luxuriant, perfume-like florals, led by tuberose, jasmine and orange blossom. Darker, waxy leather notes and a hint of clary sage then emerge, while orange complements the bouquet.
• Palate: The gin feels syrupy on the palate, with orange sorbet, fresh coriander and subtle juniper. Candied liquorice, a little incense and tingling, warm herbal spice accompany the flavour. Vanilla and geranium add to the floral character.
• Finish: The long finish remains fresh and floral as the spice notes gradually fade. Hints of citrus and dry spice add further accents.

That Boutique-y Gin Company is part of Atom Brands and was launched in 2017. Atom Brands began operating in 2011 with Bathtub Gin and later developed further distinctive spirits brands. The gin range explores unusual ingredients and flavour ideas, such as cherry or spit-roasted pineapple. Neroli Gin is That Boutique-y Gin Company's own creation. Hand-illustrated labels are part of the brand's concept and often refer to the individual gin through humorous details.
